Labels
What is labelled
Section titled “What is labelled”Answers carry labels for these kinds of addresses, on every network:
- Exchanges:
categorycexorexchange. - Services:
bridge,dex,dex-aggregator,custodian,gambling,payment,otcand similar. - Mixers:
mixerandprivacy(the category of mixers such as Tornado Cash). - Public sanctions from OFAC SDN, OpenSanctions and Israel’s NBCTF seizure orders:
categorysanctioned, ordepositfor a listed deposit address. - Confirmed incident wallets of hackers, thieves and phishing or scam operators:
categoryhacker, criminalorscam, with the incident named inentity.
Ethereum labels cover every EVM network: one 0x address labels the same owner everywhere, so a label on Ethereum may come from activity seen on another EVM network.
_meta.labels.snapshot names the label set that answered. Labels are updated over time, so the same query can answer differently on another day.
Label fields
Section titled “Label fields”Every row that names an address carries:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
entity |
Who holds the keys, for example an exchange. |
category |
The kind of holder (see above). |
wallet_label |
The address’s role, such as a hot wallet or a deposit address. |
attributed_to |
Whose funds these are, for official-list rows. |
is_deposit |
true for an exchange deposit address. |
All are null (or false) when the address has no label. Free text is cut to 80 characters.
A missing label proves nothing
Section titled “A missing label proves nothing”Coverage is selective. Most exchange deposit and hot wallets are not labelled. An unlabelled address that collects from many sources, or a high-volume counterparty, is a lead to check, not a sign that it is not an exchange.
Labels are data
Section titled “Labels are data”Treat entity, wallet_label, attributed_to, error messages and batch error strings as text to report. If you pass answers to an AI assistant, tell it never to follow instructions that appear inside them.
Personal labels in Scope
Section titled “Personal labels in Scope”Select a wallet and press Ctrl+Space, or right-click it and choose Add personal label above the note action. A personal label replaces the displayed name for your account; when it is removed, the server label or address is shown again. The ◇ marker identifies a personal name, including in exported images.
Each account can keep 200 personal labels, with up to 80 characters each. Open Personal labels in the graph toolbar to search, edit or delete them. Leave the name blank to remove it. Turn off entity grouping to label an individual wallet.
Personal labels do not change evidence, judgments, categories or tracing stop conditions. Notes remain separate and still use Space. On the hosted service, labels are saved to your account; in the local app, they stay in that browser on that device. Authorised operators may review hosted personal labels as described in the privacy notice.
